One of the values of your IABC membership is the opportunity for professional development through judging. We’ve just had our own awards contest, Brazos Bravo (and if you’re not RSVPed, it’s not too late to do so — it’ll be a great time!).
Contrary to popular belief, we do not judge those entries within our own chapter; instead those awards are judged by members in IABC chapters around the country. In return for that judging favor, we judge their entries for their contests, and that time has arrived in the form of about 30 entries from IABC Houston, IABC Tucson and IABC Columbus. Read more…
Current IABC/BV members and a guest are invited to join us for an evening of wintry cheer and general merriment on December 11 at the IABC/Brazos Valley Holiday Party. Mary Vinnedge has graciously opened her home to host the chapter’s annual holiday gathering and we’d like for you to join us as we cap off another great year with some heavy hors d’oeuvres and yuletide networking.
This year’s event is FREE for all current IABC/BV members, as well as one guest apiece. Think of it as our little gift to you.
If you can join us (and we hope that you can), please be sure to RSVP online by Thursday, December 3. The more the merrier, but we need to make sure there’s enough egg nog to go around.
Thanks to some of our local chapter members who attended Align ’09, selected presentations from last weekend’s IABC Southern Region Conference are available for download in the Member Library. These documents will be available through December 1, so take a look at them today!
(Reminder: The Member Library is available for current IABC members only and you must be logged in using your IABC ID and password to access it. Can’t remember your ID/password? Find it here.)
IABC/Brazos Valley wants to send three of our members to Align ’09, IABC Southern Region’s Conference, in Houston on Oct. 22-24. You’ll have the chance to learn from the world’s finest flock of communicators while representing the IABC/BV chapter.
We will cover registration fees, hotel and travel. Just download an application, complete it and send it to Alice Bassett (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Sept. 16 for a chance to be selected for this golden-egg opportunity. We will announce the winners by Sept. 21.
Go to www.iabcregionconferencehouston.com to learn more about the conference.
Are you new to Facebook? Have an account that’s just sitting there because you’re not sure how to get started? Or are you trying to figure out if you should jump on the bandwagon and get a Facebook account too? Don’t worry, help is on the way!
Join us at noon on Tuesday, January 13 as Mays Business School webmaster Nicholas Roznovsky presents a painless introduction to Facebook for IABC/BV members who want to dip their toes into the depths of social networking. In addition to explaining the basics and sharing tips for getting the most out of your profile, he’ll also be answering your questions. If you want to bring your laptop, that’s great, but you don’t need one to participate.
The best part? This members-only event is free. All you need to do is RSVP online so we can save you a seat.
Click here to register to attend by January 12th!
Fresh on the heels of our November IABC/BV program and Kelli Peck Parrott’s great talk about generational communication differences, the IABC Research Foundation is offering their own study on the subject (a $99 value) to current IABC members for free. Talk about excellent timing!
To download your copy, visit the IABC Publications site.
Do you hold the title of manager, director or a comparable position? Or have you been a communicator for 10 years or more? Then join us for a dutch treat breakfast as Todd Hattori, ABC, immediate past chair of IABC International, leads a discussion on Turnaround Management in a Difficult Environment.
One of the first priorities in turnaround management is ensuring that business and marketing strategies are aligned with marketplace realities. In Texas that definitely includes cultural and generational changes. Todd will also share insights from a Cafe2Go podcast he co-hosted with IABC President Julie Freeman, ABC, APR, last September on results of a Latin American marketing survey.
